SHORE

I have always found the colours of the sea endlessly hypnotic!   Walking, or even just standing on a beach, is a multisensory experience, changing with every climate.     Each beach is different, from tropical to the icy blast of Donegal.   The sea's crashing waves, the spray from the sea and the ripples left behind in the sand at the water's edge, are constantly changing.

I found myself wondering how I could begin to replicate some of this colour, pattern and texture into my work.  Standing, or strolling at the edge of the ocean also brings many emotions and thoughts, and I find it a very special place to just look, think and breathe!

I have included in my sketch book some sea scape images by other artists, like Rothko, Monet, Whistler and Turner as it is always inspiring to look at their unique interpretations of sea, sky and shore.

I have also included some of the poems and songs that are among the wide range of thoughts and ideas that crash and collide in my mind, as I walk along the Ocean's shore. I have put them here, with my visual ideas, because sometimes it is only in poetry that one can begin to find some expression for the emotions that you feel.
